Waterbury Win Streak Ends at Four, Drop Playoff Matchup Against Silk City

The Silverbacks came into Friday’s playoff matchup hot, however, the Sluggers stopped them right in their tracks with a commanding 7-1 victory. It was doom from the start as Waterbury surrendered six runs in the first inning en route to their first loss since July 16.
Freshman starter Brayden Sturino couldn’t escape the first inning as Silk City’s timely hitting with runners in scoring position consistently did damage. Bryce Isquith served in immediate relief, pitching 3 ⅓ innings and allowing two hits and one run. Greg Mable added two innings of shutout relief in the effort.
It was already tough to rebound down six after the first frame, but the Waterbury offense had a tough day at the plate. The lineup combined for just two hits and one walk drawn as they only plated a single run. The lone RBI came off the bat of freshman Nico D’Andrea with his double in the top of the fifth inning.
The loss may have ended Waterbury’s impressive win streak, but their season is yet to come to a close. Their next matchup is do or die as they face West Haven in a road matchup on Saturday evening.
