Waterbury Storms Back With Six Runs In Sixth, Eliminate West Haven

Things looked bleak for the Silverbacks in their win-or-go-home matchup against the Sailors on Saturday evening. Down 6-3 headed into their final two frames, Waterbury turned the game upside down with a six run sixth inning as they held on for a 9-6 win, moving on and eliminating West Haven in the process.
Brayden Whipple tied the game at one in the second inning with a sacrifice fly. West Haven would respond by exploding for five runs in the bottom of the third inning, taking a commanding 6-1 lead after three. Hayden Klyver started the game on the mound for Waterbury, surrendering five runs in his four innings of work.
Zaid Vohra and Joe Fasano each recorded an RBI in the fifth inning to cut the deficit in half. The sixth inning saw the Silverbacks crawl back to eventually take the lead. An Alex Teixeira RBI double brought home the fourth run as a Brayden Whipple RBI single knotted the game at six apiece.
After the inning’s first out was finally registered, Miles Perez brought home two go ahead runs following a West Haven error and later scored on a passed ball to get up to nine runs.
The Silverback bullpen, Greg Mable and Andrew Tyszka, shut down the Sailors bats with a combined three shutout innings, allowing just two hits in their relief duties.
The huge win both carries momentum and keeps the Waterbury season alive. The Silverbacks square off against the Sabercats Sunday evening in their next playoff game.
