Despite having an early advantage in the contest, the Silverbacks dropped their first game of the 2026 season to the Danbury LakeHounds 16-3 in five innings after the game was called early due to mercy rules.
Waterbury struck first in the top of the second inning following RBI singles from right fielder Kyle Parker and left fielder Kole Irizarry. Danbury quickly responded in the bottom of the frame with a three-run home run with two outs to take a lead they wouldnโt relinquish.
Left handed starter Chase Curran was tagged for seven runs in two and a third innings of work. Allowing walks was an issue for the Silverbacks as the LakeHounds reached base via balls 12 times in five innings compared to only having six hits on the day. Seven of Danburyโs 16 runs on the day were scored via being walked with the bases loaded.
Waterbury out-hit Danbury in the loss, having eight compared to six. Six starters for the Silverbacks recorded a base hit, with first baseman Alex Teixeira recording a multi-hit day and center fielder Aaron Morice smacking a double in the second inning.
Waterbury looks to shake off a rough opener with their first home contest of the season coming Tuesday night against the Hamden miners at Municipal Stadium.
