Waterbury Silverbacks splits a double header against Southington Black Knights

Both teams were strong on the hill on Thursday, but the Waterbury Silverbacks defeated Black Knights College 3-2. Kevin Cestari started the game for Waterbury and recorded 15 outs.

Black Knights College opened the scoring in the first after Ryan Kilpatrick hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

The Silverbacks captured the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the second when Kirk Ortega doubled, scoring two runs, and Zach Redlund singled, scoring one run.

Cestari earned the win for Waterbury. The starter surrendered four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out five and walking one. Matt Walling took the loss for Black Knights College. The right-handed pitcher went four innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out two and walking none.

Ortega, the number seven hitter for the Silverbacks, led the way with two runs batted in. The catcher went 1-for-1 on the day. Zach Drewry, Redlund, Mike Siano, and Ortega each collected one hit for Waterbury.

Then in game 2, Black Knights College defeated Waterbury Silverbacks 7-0 thanks in part to five runs in the fourth inning.

A single by Ryan Kilpatrick put Black Knights College on the board in the bottom of the first.

Black Knights College added one run in the second after Devin Pelletier grounded out.

Black Knights College scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Luke Wadstrup singled, scoring one run, Carson Lentini singled, scoring one run, Pelletier hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Brycen Voisine singled, scoring one run, and Ben D’Amato singled, scoring one run. Marcus Tarfano earned the win for Black Knights College.

Zach Redlund, Will Bartoli, and Kirk Ortega each collected one hit for Waterbury Silverbacks. Waterbury Silverbacks were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Mike Siano had the most chances in the field with four.
