A walk-off left the Waterbury Silverbacks on the wrong end of a 4-3 defeat to the Silk City Sluggers in both teams’ opening playoff game. The Sluggers were down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Luis Collazo doubled, scoring two runs, completing the comeback effort.

The Silverbacks lost despite out-hitting Silk City nine to five. Zach Redlund and Colin Gevry each collected two hits for Waterbury.

A single by Zach Drewry put Waterbury on the board in the top of the first. Waterbury added one run in the second. Redlund singled to center field, making the score 2-0. Then they added one run in the third. James Marino hit a sacrifice fly, making the score 3-0.

Logan Pulitano took the loss for Waterbury Silverbacks. As the lone pitcher for the Silverbacks, he almost had enough in the tank to complete the game for the win. But alas he came up just short. Nevertheless, Pulitano’s efforts cannot be understated in this playoff game. The hurler went six and two-thirds innings, surrendering four runs on five hits, striking out four and walking two.

Waterbury will have to regroup for their next playoff game on Friday.
