Waterbury Falls to West Haven in Extra Innings as Comeback Bid Falls Short

The Silverbacks and Sailors most recent matchup extended past the traditional seven innings as the game was still knotted at zero. West Haven ended up taking control in the eighth and held on for a 4-2 win over Waterbury.
One player to key in on for the contest was first-year left-handed starter Branden Mcdougall. He fired five innings of one hit, shutout ball while striking out seven. Brian Goglia, starting pitcher for West Haven, threw 6 ⅔ in Monday evening’s pitching duel.
A scoreless first seven innings of the contest saw the Sailors strike first in the top half of the eighth with four runs scored. Waterbury’s comeback bid began in the same inning with sophomore Collin Gevry recording an RBI on a fielder’s choice, bringing home Kevin Cestari to score. Alex Teixeira scored after a wild pitch to cut the deficit in half. This was unfortunately all the ground the Silverbacks could make up on the night.
Waterbury aims for a victory Tuesday night as they prepare for a road matchup against the Bridgeport Barnums.
