Waterbury Comeback Falls Just Short, Drop Matchup to Miners

The Silverbacks nearly dug themselves out of a hole on the road Sunday evening as they plated five runs in the top of the seventh inning, falling just shy of completing the comeback in their 8-7 loss to Hamden.
Caleb Camp got Waterbury on the board first with his RBI single in the top of the first inning. Lukas Longo drove in Camp to extend the lead to 2-0. Despite the initial lead, Hamden tied the game at two in the first inning and later took the 4-2 lead after three innings.
Tyler Egan and Joe Fasano handled the work on the mound for the Silverbacks, combining for six innings while allowing eight runs on eight hits. A big offensive sixth inning for Hamden extended their late lead to 8-2.
Waterbury opened the seventh with six straight hitters reaching base. Longo notched his second RBI with his bases loaded single as Tulley Szost walked with the bases loaded. Now down four, Bryce Isquith brought all the baserunners home with his RBI triple to cut the deficit to just one.
Isquith would unfortunately be stranded on third base as the tying run as Hamden would record three straight outs to close the game and seal the win.
Waterbury’s next game is a road matchup versus the Simsbury SaberCats on Wednesday evening.
