The first run of the game wasn’t scored until the fourth inning, however, a late offensive surge proved pivotal in the Silverbacks' 8-1 victory over the Sailors on Sunday night.
Neither team could capitalize with the bats through the first three innings as the pitcher’s duel chugged on. Junior Nolan Risedorf knocked in Zaid Vohra with an RBI single to break the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth. Sophomore Collin Gevry recorded an RBI single a few plays later to extend the lead to 3-0.
Waterbury tacked on insurance after sophomore Joe Fasano drove in Aaron Morice in the fifth. Fasano knocked three base hits in the win, including an RBI double in the seventh inning. The duo of Fasano and Risedorf combined for five hits and five RBIs in the contest, serving as the engine of the Silverbacks offense.
Freshman Kevin Cestari tossed four innings of one run ball while striking out seven Sailors in the victory. Greg Mable relieved Cestari with three innings of work, not allowing a run and striking out three.
A true team effort contributed to a big win for the Silverbacks. The two teams match up Monday night as Waterbury looks for continued success.
