Third Inning Haunts Silverbacks in Defeat to Barnums

What was a tight matchup through the opening stages of the game turned into disaster after Waterbury surrendered eight runs in the third inning. The crushing frame was too much for the Silverbacks to bounce back from as they fell to Bridgeport in a 14-3 loss.
Joe Fasano’s RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the first kicked things off for Waterbury as they took an initial 1-0 lead. Bridgeport would respond with the tying run in the bottom of the inning and tacked on two more in the second inning to take their first lead of the game.
The Silverbacks opened up the top of the third with a hit by pitch and three consecutive singles, which saw Kevin Cestari tally an RBI in the process. Fasano added his second RBI with a single of his own to tie the game at three. This is all the Silverback offense would put forward as the Barnums took steady control of the game with their eight run outburst in the bottom half of the inning.
Five Waterbury errors contributed to most of the damage that Bridgeport ended up doing, as starter Brayden Sturino’s nine runs allowed only saw two of those being earned. Greg Mable and Tyler Egan each added relief efforts in the loss.
Waterbury will have time to regroup before their next matchup, which comes on the road on July 8 vs. the Riptide.
