Teixeira’s Big Day at the Plate Leads Waterbury to Win Over Meriden

The Silverbacks opened up their playoff run with a 5-2 win over the Riptide on Wednesday evening. Junior Alex Teixeira tallied three hits in the contest and drove in a run in the win. His six total bases were essential for the Waterbury offense in the victory.
Teixeira opened up the contest’s scoring with an RBI double in the top of the first, allowing Miles Perez to score. The next inning saw Perez record an RBI himself as his single drove home Aaron Morice to score. The top of the third saw Morice record an RBI with his fielder’s choice, driving home Kevin Cestari to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
Freshman left hander Branden Macdougall started the game pitching for Waterbury. In his first career playoff start, Macdougall threw 4 ⅔ innings, allowing just two hits and two runs while striking out five. Andrew Tyszka threw 2 ⅓ innings of shutout relief, nearly perfect as he let up just one base hit.
After the Riptide came within one in the bottom of the fifth, Perez came up big with an RBI double, driving in two runs to pad the Silverbacks lead. Perez’s three RBIs led the team on the day.
Waterbury moves on in the CCBL playoffs with the victory as they are slated to square off against Simsbury Thursday evening.
