The Waterbury Silverbacks dropped their matchup against the West Haven Sailors Wednesday night 7-0. A barrage of walks during the game allowed for an early lead the Sailors wouldn’t relinquish.
West Haven opened the game loading the bases on three straight walks and struck first after a Waterbury error. Three more runs in the first inning dug the Silverbacks in a deeper hole early.
Sophomore starter Riley Numberg allowed no hits and three earned runs in his 1 ⅔ innings of work, but surrendered 11 walks to the Sailors lineup. Kyle Parker and Christian Camp provided a combined three scoreless innings of relief.
It was a quiet day at the plate for the Silverbacks as they only had three total baserunners in the game with freshman center fielder Brayden Whipple getting the only hit for the team. Whipple also stole two bases in the effort.
Waterbury will look to quickly rebound and get back in the win column as they are slated to host the Danbury Lakehounds in another home matchup Friday evening.
