Silverbacks Fall to Miners as Comeback Bid Falls Short

Waterbury wasn’t able to recover from allowing four runs to Hamden in the first inning on Sunday evening as they dropped the contest in a 5-3 final score.
Sophomore starter Riley Numberg started on the mound for Waterbury. He tossed four innings and allowed just two hits and four runs (zero earned). Walks were the kryptonite for the Silverbacks in the loss as they allowed a total of eight to the Miners lineup in the contest.
Despite being in an early 4-0 deficit, Waterbury managed to cut that in half in the bottom of the first inning. Joe Fasano drove in Zaid Vohra with an RBI double to open up the inning and later scored after Alex Teixeira recorded an RBI single.
In the bottom of the fourth, Collin Gevry drove in Teixeira after a Hamden infield error to bring their deficit to just one run. Trailing by one is the closest Waterbury would come in the contest as Hamden held on for the close win.
Kyle Parker and Teixeira combined for three innings of relief while allowing just one hit and one earned run.
The Silverbacks hold a second consecutive home on Monday night, this time against the Sailors while looking to be in the win column.
