The Waterbury Silverbacks lost Monday night on the road against the Southington Black Knights 6-1. A combination of timely errors on defense and the inability to get the offense going made Waterbury fall short.
Junior starter Greg Marble started the game for Waterbury and threw 4 β
innings while allowing five runs, with only two of those being earned. The SUNY Cobleskill product was eventually relieved by sophomore Joe Fasano.
Southington struck first in the first frame for an early advantage. In the third inning, the Silverbacks tied the game after second baseman Bryce Isquith grounded into a fielderβs choice to bring home second-year shortstop Zaid Vohra to tie the game at one apiece.
This was the only run produced in the game by Waterbury as Southington scored five unanswered runs en route to a victory. Right fielder Kyle Parker picked up the squadβs only hit of the ballgame to lead off the top of the last inning.
Waterbury has three more chances in consecutive days to get back in the win column, starting with hosting a Tuesday night game against the Meriden Riptide, whom they lost to last Sunday evening.
