Late-Inning Struggles Continue for Waterbury as Game with Hamden Ends in a Tie

The Waterbury Silverbacks and Hamden Miners tied 7-7 on Friday in a nine inning game. Waterbury had a four run lead heading into the late innings.

Hamden Miners got on the board with two runs in the second inning after a double play plated the first run and an error scored the second.

The Silverbacks jumped into the lead in the top of the third when David Braun homered, scoring two runs, and Zach Drewry drew a walk, scoring one run.

Casey Sexton opened the game for the Silverbacks. The starter surrendered one hit and two runs over four innings, striking out four and walking four.

Kyle Donlon pitched three innings in relief giving up one run on two hits, walked three and struck out two.

Heading into the bottom of the eighth inning the Silverbacks had a 7-3 lead. Gabe Baber would surrender four runs over the final two innings of play. In the eighth, Hamden would get a two out RBI double from Brian Hersh and in the ninth, Tyler Kornacki would triple with two outs and later score on a wild pitch to tie the game.

Drewry, Fiatarone, Braun, Sosa, and Hartman each collected one hit as Braun led the Silverbacks with two runs batted in. Drewry had three of the team’s 12 walks for the game. The Silverbacks turned two double plays in the game.

Next up for the Waterbury Silverbacks is a game at Muzzy Field where they will take on the Bristol Blues of the NECBL on Monday at 4:30 pm.
