Cam Willis a Difficult Out as the Waterbury Silverbacks Defeat the Western Mass Pioneers

Cam Willis was doing it all for the Waterbury Silverbacks as he collected three hits in three at bats and scored three times. The Silverbacks went on to defeat the Western Mass Pioneers 16-5 in dominating fashion.

The Silverbacks opened the scoring in the first after Zach Drewry singled, scoring one run. A double by Will Sawyer gave the Pioneers the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the first. Waterbury would tie the game at two in the top of the second.

The Silverbacks then took the lead, 6-2, in the top of the fourth thanks to singles by Colin Gevry and Michael Fiatarone. A lead they would not relinquish again.

The Silverbacks scored eight runs on three hits in the top of the seventh inning. Willis singled, scoring a run and then Gevry drew a walk scoring another. Pierce Cowles hit into a fielder's choice, but two runs scored. Later in the inning, Zach Redlund finished off the scoring with a single, scoring three runs.

Logan Pulitano earned the win for Waterbury Silverbacks. The starter gave up eight hits and three runs over six innings, striking out two and walking one. Gabe Baber appeared in relief and pitched the final inning for the Silverbacks.

The Silverbacks amassed 12 hits in the game. Gevry and Fiatarone each drove in three runs for Waterbury Silverbacks. Drewry and Dario Sosa both turned in multi-hit nights for Waterbury.

Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 11 walks for the game. Scott Gel impressively walked three times.

The Silverbacks will look to carry this momentum as they travel to face the Hamden Miners for their next game on Friday.
