Big Sixth Inning Propels Waterbury to Win Over Hamden

It was mostly a quiet game between the Silverbacks and Miners on Friday evening until Waterbury took a late lead in the sixth inning and wouldn’t look back en route to their 4-2 win.
Kevin Cestari started the game on the bump for Waterbury and delivered a quality start to keep the Silverbacks in the fight. In five innings, he surrendered two runs (one earned) on just three hits while punching out four. Andrew Tyszka came in relief efforts and threw two shutout innings, allowing just one hit and one walk.
The ballgame was scoreless until the top of the fourth when Cestari helped himself out with an RBI fielder’s choice, bringing home Zaid Vohra to score. Hamden would take the lead in the bottom of the frame, however, Waterbury’s sixth inning proved pivotal in their victory.
Five hits in a row after the first out opened up the sixth. A Nolan Risedorf RBI triple brought home the tying and go ahead runs as Cestari recorded another big RBI with his single. Four runs was all the support needed for Waterbury.
The big momentum win for Waterbury was pivotal as the regular season winds down. The Silverbacks have one last matchup before the playoffs as they host Glastonbury on Sunday.
